This country is crippled right now. It is that way because of both political parties and the ferocity in which these parties attack each other. It is not uncommon for a Democrat to insult a Republican for his hard stance on the defense budget, or lack there of. On the other side, it is habitual for a Republican to bash Obamacare. During election years, these lines are miniature Berlin Walls that surround our homes, places of business and schools, each one painted blue or red and adorned with a donkey or elephant.
It is the job of a politician to "Tear down this wall!" (admit it, you just read that in your best Reagan impersonation), yet the GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney directly contradicts this constantly. THIS is why these walls still exist. A man whose sole purpose is to unify a country and create prosperity cannot, and will not, accept that a man of a different political ideology can accomplish that.
Unfortunately, this is exactly the position that the mass media focuses on. It seems as though the only candidates who are heard are those who spew the most nonsense. Rick Perry: "There are three departments I would cut..." Herman Cain: "Libya... Which one is that again?" Newt Gingrich: "The fact is, we can afford a fairly ignorant presidency now." Sarah Palin&Donald Trump: Anything they have ever said. What this country needs is someone who puts country first and *GASP* is th-the "M-word". A Moderate. Enter Jon Huntsman.
This Mormon Ex-Governor of Utah (R) served as Obama's ambassador to China. Oh look, he can make friends with the other side. Take notes right-wing extremists. Yet, the one person that this country needs, someone who can play nice with liberals and democrats, is polling in the single digits. This is a man who puts country first. This is clearly stated throughout his campaign trail. I only wish I could vote for him, but alas Father Time screwed me again.
Afghanistan is a main topic that GOP candidates are asked about. The ability to answer this with sincerity, honesty and a solid plan is necessary. Huntsman was asked about this in a debate on November 22. Throughout the debate Mitt Romney has the smirk of a chastised child who doesn't agree with what their parents are saying. True to form, he responds with a childish answer.
Mother- Now little Mitt, I think it's time to cut down on your cookie intake. One or two after dinner is okay, but the rest are gone.
Mitt- So I can't have any more cookies?!
Your right Mitt. Intelligence gathering, a strong drone and special forces presence and ongoing training of the Afghan National Army is code for "Pull all the troops out in a week".
The fact of the matter is, Huntsman will most likely not win the GOP nomination. As unfortunate as this is, it should give the American people a strong wakeup call. It is time for a divided nation to be whole once again. Now, although we are not to the point of a Civil War, the last president to truly do that was Abraham Lincoln. This country does not need a great Republican or a great Democrat. What this country truly needs is a great American. I only hope that Huntsman has the foresight to realize that he could win the Democratic nomination in another four years and win under that banner.
Romney- "The person who should represent our party in running against President Obama is not someone who called him a remarkable leader and went to be his ambassador to China."
Huntsman- "Our nation is divided, David, because of attitudes like that."

Interesting post - thanks, Draiden.
Man I just got really nervous when I saw that the master blogger had commented.
Draiden, it is very refreshing to see a young adult speak their mind so clearly and intellectually. Huntsman is a great candidate and if he doesn't win the nomination, the winner would be smart to choose him as a VP.
No because then you might just have to read a blog post about assassinating the president and that will just make me look bad....
