Athletes are seen as the biggest cry-babies of the world: the guys that will complain about not making $8 million a year. However, there are stories about athletes who, every now and then who do good with their money, and take less money to come back to a team that they love. Amid all of his downfalls, Chad Ochocinco is one of these athletes.
A wide receiver who has been known for his hijinks on the field, Chad Ochocinco connects with his fans in a way that no other athlete can. Using the social networking site Twitter, Ochocinco tweets dozens of times a day, often in response to fans. Last week, he tweeted that he was going to a steakhouse for dinner and that the first 200 fans to arrive at said steak house would be able to have dinner with him. He bought dinner for the 200 fans and dispersed his cell phone number among them. Then, the next day, after spending close to $8,000 on dinner, he complained that only 30 fans were using his number. This is how athletes should act.
Early in his career, he was a showoff and a disruption to his team. However, after maturing and putting his career into perspective, he has turned into a role model. Recently, he worked with the New England Patriots on "restructuring" his contract. Truly, what this means is that he took a $2 million pay cut and now is making $1 million yearly. He did this so that he could stay with the team that he fell in love with last season. Again, this is how athletes should act.
